Producer and Terroir
Antonio Soltero owns 24 hectares of land in the Huelva region, where he grows Calinda strawberries. Passionate about his work, he inherited this vocation from his father, who was himself a strawberry grower. The Huelva region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers, which gives the strawberries a rich flavour and makes them bursting with sunshine.

Cultivation practices
The Calinda strawberry is a delicious fruit with a conical shape that keeps very well. This variety, planted in December, is grown in open ground in a greenhouse.
As for cultivation, the soil is sandy loam, and Antonio also adds NPK fertilisers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) to provide all the nutrients necessary for its growth.
What makes this variety special? It manages to maintain a constant Brix level (the natural sugar content of the fruit) throughout the year.
Environmental or social initiatives
Committed to protecting the environment, Antonio plays an active role in conserving water and regenerating the soil. To this end, the plants removed in June are worked into the soil to enrich it with organic matter.
Antonio has also installed a drip irrigation system to provide the right amount of water for each plant. These pipes are also used to dispense fertiliser.
