Luis Alberto Barsallo

Producer & Terroir

A passion passed down from father to son. Luis Alberto’s connection with the banana industry dates back to his father, an agricultural technician in Ecuador, at a time when bananas were already a strategic commodity for the country. From a very early age, he discovered not only his interest in agriculture, but also his passion for working with and managing teams.

Based in Ecuador, specifically in the Machala region, Luis currently oversees around 2,100 hectares of banana plantations. The Machala region enjoys a warm and variable climate, which is ideal for growing bananas. Thanks to an efficient irrigation system, the soil maintains optimal conditions throughout the year.

Cultivation practices

This Ecuadorian terroir gives the bananas a unique quality: an intense aroma, natural sweetness, a rich flavour and an excellent texture.

The bananas are grown naturally and harvested by hand throughout the year. Production is based on rigorous agricultural practices, ensuring better control over productivity whilst maintaining high quality standards.

Environmental or social initiatives

Committed to protecting the environment, Luis plays an active role in conserving water and restoring the soil. Irrigation times are adjusted according to temperature, sunlight and humidity, thereby ensuring the efficient use of water and the preservation of the soil.

The well-being of staff is a cornerstone for Luis and his team. Their day-to-day work is guided by the values of respect, responsibility and shared commitment, making management a deeply rewarding experience.
