Producer & Terroir
A family passion passed down through the generations. Based in Urupês, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, Osmar Bertolo grows guavas with dedication and expertise. Proud to play a part in feeding so many people, he sees this crop as much more than just a farming activity: it is a true family legacy.
Located in the north-west of the State of São Paulo, the farm benefits from conditions favourable to the cultivation of guavas. The sandy-clay soil, which is enriched and amended annually based on precise analyses, provides an environment conducive to the growth of fruit trees. The climate is more variable, alternating between periods of rain and drought, but an efficient irrigation system ensures that optimal growing conditions are maintained.
What makes me most proud is seeing three generations of my family coming together to grow guavas

Cultivation practices
The soil in Urupês naturally encourages the growth of fruit with beautiful colours and intense flavours. However, according to Osmar, the quality of the guavas depends above all on the farming practices carried out on a daily basis.
Particular attention is paid to the fertilisation of the orchards, regular soil monitoring and the selection of healthy, vigorous saplings. This approach ensures a consistent quality of fruit, whilst preserving the land’s long-term potential.
Environmental or social initiatives
Committed to preserving his environment, Osmar protects a stretch of riparian woodland at the rear of his property. This natural vegetation helps to preserve local biodiversity and the ecological balance of his farm.
His family’s history is closely linked to guava cultivation. His father, now aged 82, still works alongside him in the fields. His daughter, currently a medical student, remains deeply attached to her farming roots. Three generations have thus built their lives around guava production, reflecting a strong passing down of family values and expertise.
